Meet the Candidate
Isabella Solis is the Republican candidate for New Mexico House of Representatives, District 37. A current Dona Ana County Commissioner, Isabella is the daughter of migrant workers and the oldest of eight children. Her parents taught her the value of hard work and instilled in her a determination to be of service to her community.
Before serving on the Dona Ana County Commission, where she placed a strong focus on serving her constituents and securing funding for roads and infrastructure, Isabella served with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). She was instrumental in providing disaster recovery services following Hurricane Katrina, and assisted families who lost their homes and moved them into Direct Housing as residents rebuilt their homes.
Isabella also served with Tierra del Sol, a Non-Governmental Organization that worked in concert with the Federal government to provide homes to qualifying families. She worked with Mayor Judd Nordyke of the Village of Hatch, NM following the flooding in 2006 where more than 402 homes were affected. Isabella’s role was to logistically coordinate volunteer agencies.
Through her commitment to public service, Isabella was appointed to serve the City of Las Cruces as a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program advisory board where she has raised awareness of needs for seniors in the county. She is a member of the Ocotillo Institute for Social Justice where she has derived her passion for public service. She was also appointed as committee chair for the Big Event for Cancer Aid Resources and Education, Inc., (CARE) a group devoted to serving better care and access for cancer patients.
Isabella and her husband have five adult children Liz, Elaine, Krystina, Ezekiel, and Renee. Isabella’s husband Richard Solis, a native of Las Cruces, served in the United States Marine Corps (USMC). He is retired from the Department of Corrections and currently serves as an officer at the Federal Building.
